At Perfect Balance, community and sustainability are values we hold close to our hearts and this July, we were proud to roll up our sleeves and take part in the annual Beach Clean at Hayling Island, organised by the fantastic team at CMP (Community Matters Partnership).

CMPP hayling island beach clean

Despite a grey start to the day, spirits were high as over 130 volunteers from CMPP’s partner organisations gathered along the south coast with a common goal: to clean up and protect one of Hampshire’s beautiful beaches.

We were excited to be part of this impactful initiative for the first time as a CMPP partner, joining many other companies in making a difference to our local environment.

From sweeping stretches of coastline to collecting harmful microplastics, our team was fully immersed in the work and the reward came in the form of 36 full bags of rubbish removed, including some truly unexpected items like fishing rods, a sleeping bag, and even Barbie’s left leg!

In close coordination with the Marine Conservation Society, specific areas were carefully combed for microplastics, a small but crucial step in protecting marine life from unseen hazards.

As Rachel Austen, CMP’s Beach Clean organiser, beautifully put it:

“It’s amazing to see so many passionate people from all these companies coming together to give back, to protect wildlife, and to show their care for the environment. This kind of community spirit is so encouraging – collaboration, action, a shared commitment to something bigger than ourselves.”

After a day of hard (but rewarding!) work, volunteers were treated to refreshments from CMP partners Asahi and a classic seaside dinner of fish and chips – the perfect end to a meaningful day.

From all of us at Perfect Balance, we truly valued the experience and the opportunity to give back.

As our founder, Louise Handley, shared:

“This was our first volunteering event and we didn’t know what to expect. But the entire day was well run and had a warm, community feel to it. We felt a great sense of achievement for the difference we have all made – and we got to spend some time outside of the office as a team.”

It was a privilege to be part of this incredible day and we’re looking forward to taking part in more CMP volunteering opportunities throughout the year.

Here’s to many more days of teamwork, action, and making a difference – together.
